Zombeanstalk: /zämbēnstôk/ Zack planted some beans that he was told were magic. Little did he know how true that was. Once planted they could not be stopped. After harvesting a few nasty tasting beans he decided to plant tomatoes so he turned over the soil and put in a few nice plants. The next day he found the uprooted ”mater” plants plastered against the shed as if flung by some unseen hand and the zombeanstalk standing in their place. Thus began a summer of battle to reclaim the garden. Pesticides, herbicides, even hoes and machetes were no match for this evil thing. Every assault just seemed to make it stronger. The onset of Winter finally brought Zack the relief he sought. He is now desperately trying to sell his house so that he can be gone by the Spring thaw. Sasquash: /SAS kwosh/ Cala had spent many weeks the previous year getting rid of all the different kinds of squash that had grown in her garden. She had made pickles, disguised it in zucchini bread, roasted pumpkin seeds, and cut 20 jack-o-lanterns. She had even simply put some of it in bags which she then dropped off on random doorsteps on her way to work, knowing that her own neighbors would recognize her handiwork. And now it had all returned full force in a spectacularly scary regrowth, with even bigger plants than last year, like Sasquash. Calabashed her head against the wall with the frustration. “Oh my gourd!” she now cried. “It’s just not cutecumber any more. It’s spaghetting worse every year!” Butternutty ways will have her replanting next summer.

Ornafestation: /ôrnəfestāshən/ Maybe it is a form of separation anxiety or some sort of guilty pleasure but every time Bob needs to leave town on business, Louise feels the need to add to the ornafestation in the front yard. This time during a trip to Kansas she went for the full tacky-pack — the burro with cart complete with gnome driver and 8 dozen plastic flowers. Bob has learned to walk to and from his car looking only at his shoes and enough walkway to keep from tripping. Etymology: ornament (a thing used to adorn something but usually having no practical purpose) + (insects or animals in large numbers, typically so as to cause damage or disease) Created by: artr.

Kitschen: /k itch in/ The food in her kitschen was great, it was the little plaques all over the place with heart warming phrases that were hard to stomach. Etymology: kitchen, kitsch Created by: galwaywegian.

Bricabracken: /BRIK ah brak en/ Sue Veneer likes to bring home something “cute” for her yard from every place she travels. Since her collection represents places from Alaska to Zimbabwe, there is no rhyme nor reason to how things are placed. She also favors “the wild look,” which features a lot of bushes and ground cover, requiring a minimum of upkeep. Sue’s yard is probably the only place in the world where a polar bear towers over a zebra, both standing in a patch of English ivy. Her neighbors find it unusual and call it “the bric-a-bracken,” but consider it much more tolerable than the previous owner’s yard, which most of them remember all too well even though it was almost fifteen years ago. That one featured, um, “vintage,” cars in various states of repair, many up on blocks. Henry’s pain and discomfort at going to a new doctor was only overshadowed by the extreme abdominal pains which had attacked him for the past few hours. It was only when he was counting backwards from 100 that he spied the certificate on the wall…Doctor of Veterinarian Medicine. He just hoped that he’d not wake up and find himself neutered! She froze when it asked for her address and phone number. Having just moved, she could not for the life of her remember them. AAAgh! What a conundumb and her not allowed to open her purse. It might be unwrapping something to eat, tossing the food in the trash leaving him with a wrapper in hand and a dumb look on his face or walking from one room to another with a task in mind only to forget why he went there. There was something else but I can’t remember it just now.
