Styxcycle: /STICKS-uh-cull (alternatively: stick-SIGH-cull)/ Flo and Eddie drove down to the local Sudz-O-Mat with some trepidation. Flo didn’t trust Eddie’s laundry skills, and Eddie knew he’d suffer a tumble-dried fate worse than death if he lost just ONE of Flo’s imported Mohair/Alpaca blend custom knitted reinforced-toe foot garments. After gently front-loading the best machine with Eco-friendly low-phosphate clinical-action detergent, Flo lovingly inserted her beloved socks and set the washer to “ultra-gentle”. Flo positioned SweatyEddie on a folding chair right in front of the porthole and went next door to the pizzeria.
Sure as shootin, when they opened the evil machine’s greedy maw, Flo’s coddled sockettes were riding solo, unpaired and unloved, traumatized victims of the mysterious STYXCYCLE which spelled the end of another modern relationship. Flo had insured her collection to the hilt, but although her temperment was set to NORMAL, she took Eddie down to the river and beat him on a rock in an effort to make him “come clean”… Etymology: STYX+CYCLE=STYXCYCLE…..STYX:the principal river of the underworld in Greek mythology in which the Gods did their laundry;Latin Styg-, Styx, from Greek…….CYCLE:an interval of time during which a sequence of events or phenomena is completed

Blackholse: /black-holz/ Marnie knew if she could just find the secret portal into the blackholse, she would wander into a sock-filled utopia where errant socks and other miscellaneous garments were lined up in an orderly fashion just waiting to be reunited with their mates or owners. So obsessed was she that her husband came home to find the washer and dryer disassembled and the beginnings of a hole dug into the laundry room floor. From that moment on, Marnie and her husband never spoke of the blackholse again, and Marnie started wearing those little disposable foot covers they have in shoe stores for trying on shoes without socks.
