Nextdoorneighbully: /nekstdôrnāboŏlē/ It can be easy to identify the nextdoorneigbully. Just look for a couple of houses for sale on your street with one in the middle that’s not. If there are more houses for sale up and down that street, you might want to reconsider that under-priced bargain you found. Etymology: next-door neighbor (a person in or to the next house or room) + bully (a person who uses strength or power to harm or intimidate those who are weaker) Created by: artr.

Fleelation: Look I found a pretty flower.

DEFINITION: v. To see joy and beauty where others only see complications, trouble and weeds. n. A moment of delight which dissipates as soon as it is shared.

Look I found a pretty flower.

VERBOTICISMS: (Invented words created by the Verbotomy Writers)

Fleelation: /flee lay shun/ We all get feelings of fleelation. You know when your bank statement shows money you never knew you had, only to discover that you were accidentaly credited with someone else’s deposit, after you spent it, of course. When you wait for the mail and are delighted to get lots of letters. Except, they are just bills and junk mail…no correspondence from friends. You are excited to get a tax refund of $500, only to find out your spouse owes them $2000 and you are going to have to help him out to pay for it. The worst though is when you are a kid and so excited about Santa, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny, only to finally find out it is really your parents. That’s fleelation! Etymology: Flee (run away quickly) & Elation ( a feeling of joy and pride;an exhilarating psychological state of pride and optimism; an absence of depression) Created by: Nosila.

Also contains an element of “fleeting”

Unjoyment: /É™ndʒɔɪmÉ™nt/ The bad news is that a child’s life can be filled with moments of unjoyment. Some of the biggest are when they try to share great discoveries with adults. The white cardboard telescopes you found in your mom’s bathroom trashcan… how excited the dog gets when you rub certain parts of his tummy… Others moments need no adult intervention at all to quash the fun. Discovering that semi-sweet chocolate is a lie… that amusement park really means scare the bejesus out of you… that you are NOT the next Tony Hawk… The good news is that eventually get to become an adult and can start helping your kids unjoy their lives. Etymology: un (denoting the absence of a quality or state; not) + enjoyment (take delight or pleasure in an activity or occasion) Created by: artr.

Pollynannasecond: /pah lee NAN ah sek und/ There was that moment, that brief wonderful Pollynannasecond, between the time she reached for the hundred-dollar-bill she found on the street and the moment she saw the truck bearing down upon her, in which she exclaimed into her cell phone to her friend, “Dreams really do come true, and tomorrow I’ll finally be able to spend just a little money on a treat for myself!…” Etymology: nanosecond + Pollyanna (a fictional girl who was unstoppably and, some say, insufferably cheerful and optimistic) Created by: karenanne.

Mallardkey: /mal lard kee/ Joan owned a pet duck which she named Sir Francis Drake. She was able to communicate with him very well. He became a therapist for her, as she told him all her problems and dreams. He listened and gave her very clear advice. Some people thought it was all mallardkey, really… getting advice from a duck! One day, she asked Sir Drake how much she should pay him for his valuable service. “Don’t worry”, he said “I’ll send you my bill!” Etymology: Mallard (wild dabbling duck from which domestic ducks are descended) & Mallarkey (insincere or foolish talk; misinformation) Created by: Nosila.

Petagogue: /PET ah gog/ The reason Ann Noy talks with animals is that no people WANT to talk with her. She is a petagogue, spewing her dog-ma all the time. She talks until she’s horse. People are too cowed by her obviously superior intelligence to ox her what she’s talking about, and it’s too difficult to ferret out the meaning. Everyone ducks when they see her coming, and they just want to bat her away. So she long ago gave up trying to figure out why people were so catty about her, and retreated, tortoiselike, to her cocoon to live out her days as an animal whisperer. Etymology: pet + pedagogue (a person who teaches, instructs, or talks in a manner that is excessively dogmatic, shows off his or her learnedness or overemphasizes minor details) Created by: karenanne.

Mechaneyes: /MEK uhn ize/ “I only have mechaneyes for you,” Carson crooned softly, as he stroked the side of his ’78 Buick Century. “Those sleek new snazzy cars have nothing on you. They have but a shadow of your beauty and grace.” His car was like an old friend to him. When people asked if he was getting a new car anytime soon, he would snap, “Would you trade in a friend of 32 years for someone you had just met?” Behind his back, people would say that if they had a friend of 32 years that smelled as bad as Carson’s car did, they probably WOULD get rid of that friend. Etymology: mechanize + eyes Created by: karenanne.

Spinfatuation: /spin fat yu ay shun/ Carl loved his car, in fact you could say he had a bad case of spinfatuation. His favourite book and movie had been Stephen King’s “Christine”, so when he first took her out for a spin (or as he called it, on their first date), he named her Christine. His spinfatuation was automatic and he spent many hours learning auto repair, because he did not want all those grease monkeys down at the local garage touching her sleek chassis, never mind looking under her hood. His time alone with her in the garage soon became a fixation. His mother was worried, but found it hard to torque to him about it. She tried to steer him towards other activities (or even appliances), but he refused to shift and always yelled back at her, until she was exhausted. Her concerns were further fueled by his talk about marrying Christine. She argued that this love was not the wheel thing and their age differential was too great. His mother almost had a hemi one day, when she discovered that Carl had left a note saying that he and Christine had eloped. The next day, Carl walked home, leaking eye fluids, without the lovely Christine. His mother saw that he was ready to blow a gasket and asked him what happened. Carl broke down and said “I have made a complete axle of myself on my wedding night!” He told her that he had found out when she had made a transmission, that Christine had had some “work” done on her before they met, she was really a convertible… she used to be known as Christopher! She became the little engine that couldn’t. Carl lost all his inhibitors and committed battery first and then vehicular homicide. He had come home to look for his cables…the jumpers. We knew it would all end in gears…Oh, the heart brake!
Etymology: Spin (a short drive in a car) & Infatuation (an object of extravagant short-lived passion;foolish and usually extravagant passion or love or admiration)

Syntaxidermist: Man, you loving bestest ever!

DEFINITION: n. A person who constantly corrects other people’s grammar. v. To habitually correct the grammar of everyone with whom you speak regardless of the social context or the minuteness the perceived error.

Man, you loving bestest ever!

VERBOTICISMS: (Invented words created by the Verbotomy Writers)

Syntaxidermist: /sin taxi der mist/ Lynn Gwistik was secretly known as Marian the Grammarian. She was a stickler for correct grammar. She was neither passive nor active, but always very tense. When she fell in love with the object of her desire, Jerry Und, she knew he was not perfect and she would have to try and modify him, because he was such an onomatopoeian. He had prepositioned her and when their ellipsis met, he was superlative. But we all know that love is of a transitive nature and when she tired of his dangling modifiers, her clause came out and she attempted a ligature on him. Jerry had not known that Lynn was a syntaxidermist before she had tried to have him mounted on her trophy wall with her other antecedents. Thanks to his testimony, she is serving an indefinite,run-on, compound sentence for her crimes. Etymology: Syntax (the grammatical arrangement of words in sentences; studies of the rules for forming admissible sentences;a systematic orderly arrangement & Taxidermist (a craftsman who stuffs and mounts the skins of animals for display) Created by: Nosila.

Cunnilinguist: /“Kun-EE-leeng-WIST”/ Everyone dreads the Thursday afternoon staff meeting: Bob, the office manager, makes what should be a 30-minute meeting addressing staff concerns a 2-hour lecture on correct grammar. Bob is such a cunnilinguist he spends more time correcting every little mistake people make when speaking than actually hearing what they are saying. If Bob reminds us that his name is a palindrome one more time, I swear I will scream! Etymology: Combination of the words “cunning” and “linguist” Created by: lplybon.

Lexactitude: /lek ZAK tih tood/ Lexie’s constant correcting of what everyone was saying was really wearing thin. I told her I was chomping at the bit to get out of there because I found her lexactitude so annoying, and she responded, “Actually, it’s ‘champing at the bit,’ not ‘chomping.'” I told her something she could chomp as I was leaving.
