Inphlegmatory: Oh-oh, I’m surrounded

DEFINITION: n. A pile of used and discarded tissues; may constitute a bio-hazard. v. To drop a used tissue on to the floor beside your bed or chair, because you are so sick you can barely move.

Oh-oh, I'm surrounded

VERBOTICISMS: (Invented words created by the Verbotomy Writers)

Inphlegmatory: /in flem a tor ee/ The Fire Marshall was certain to declare that the bedroom floor of Sal Iver’s house was definitely an inphlegmatory risk. Sal had been sick with the flu for 2 days and had neither the skill nor the will to put all his used tissues in a receptacle. His bedroom was the site of much hankie pankie and the normally phlegmboyant Sal was reduced to that of a bronchialbuster who had not lasted long enough to win the big purse. The irony was that 2 days ago, he had planned to phone in sick to play hookey from work. He figured the word Gesundheit meant “serves you right”. All this while his catarrh gently weeps…sniff, sniff! Etymology: Inflammatory (characterized or caused by inflammation;unhealthy, detrimental to health) & Phlegm (Mucous, expectorated matter;saliva mixed with discharges from the respiratory passages) Created by: Nosila.

Ack !!
I wanted to use “phlegm” for this one. Let’s see… there are three more body fluids, right? I mean, phlegm, blood, something and something else… Gosh this is going to be difficult.

Loogiellution: /-lu-gi-lu-shen-/ Just dusted off my copy of Galen’s “Physiologia” to figure out the right body fluid to use for this challenge. You know, come up with something phlegmo-hemo-uro-bilious… but “phlegm” is already taken by another player. Then my gaze fell on the old Penguin Classics copy of Aristotle with his four elements… but nothing geo-hydro-pneumo-flammable came to mind. Oh well… I guess, “LOOGIELUTION” is the best I can offer at the moment. Too bad that by now I’m too drunk to use it in a coherent sentence… Sad. Etymology: LOOGIE (n.) (fr. mod. Eng. slang) – snot, phlegm, sputum, booger, “lung cookie;” LUTION (n.; fr. Lat. lutum) – mud, filth (e.g. “pollution”). Created by: XMbIPb.

Mucascade: /myu kas KAYD/ Vy Russ had had the flu for the past three days, and the tissues that she had been dropping in the little trash basket next to the couch had accumulated and begun to overflow. She was so tired and dizzy that she didn’t even feel like emptying the basket when she went to the bathroom, so it had become a mucascade of snot rags tumbling, avalanche-like, to the floor. Too bad she lived alone. Or maybe, good thing she lived alone and no one else had to be subjected to it…. Etymology: mucus + cascade Created by: karenanne.

Adderation: So what do you think of my snake?

DEFINITION: v. To pretend that you adore someone’s pet even though it is annoyingly stupid, bizarrely threatening, or just plain stinky. n. A alarming pet or companion, which nevertheless requires fawning.

So what do you think of my snake?

VERBOTICISMS: (Invented words created by the Verbotomy Writers)

Adderation: /ad der ay shun/ Monty Python was a mere civil serpent who had always admired his co-worker, Ana Conda from afar. One night he met her at the CobraCabana Club and they danced the Mamba and he ended up driving her back to his den in his Viper, which was an old rattler. Taking her boa and mocassins, he invited her to
relax and have a Stinger. He then disappeared into the bedroom and brought out a huge krait and asked her to marry him. She tried to show her adderation, but felt constricted and ran out the door, shouting, “Fangs, but no fangs, you legless lizard and herpestologist!”. He ran after her yelling, “Even though you have a nice asp, I want my Diamondback!” Etymology: Adder (small terrestrial viper common) & Adoration (the act of admiring strongly;to feel profound love and admiration)

Pseudozoophilia: /-su-do-zo-o-fi-li-a-/ Once a girl hears the ticking of that special biological clock, she’ll fake anything. I knew a girl once who pretended to know how to cook, laughed at my jokes, and even laughed at my friends’ jokes. What tipped me over to propose was her PSEUDOZOOPHILIA toward my pet tarantula Mike. Now that we are back from our honeymoon, Mike is dead, I am always hungry and can’t help but wonder what else is she faking. Etymology: PSEUDO (fr. Grk.) – false, fake; ZOO (fr. Grk.) – animal; PHILOS (fr.Grk) – dear, love. Created by: XMbIPb.

Beastbuddy: /beast BUD ee/ “Um, isn*t a scorpion kind of a dangerous pet?” she asked, as she scooted toward the other end of the couch. “Shhh – you’ll hurt Spike*s feelings! He doesn*t even know he’s supposed to be scary. He’s my beastbuddy and would never hurt anyone,” he responded. “Just make sure to shake out your shoes before you leave – you know, so you don*t hurt him. He gets a tiny bit cranky when people step on him.” Etymology: best buddy + beast Created by: karenanne.

Luckily, Pete Best quit after the Hamburg tour (when they sang as a back-up band for Tony Sheridan). If Ringo didn’t take Pete’s spot at the drum set, this word would have never been born. Cool word, N! 🙂

Uberloquitor: /-ü-bÉ™r-lo-kwi-tor-/ I can’t even tell you what George and I drank over the weekend. Nor how much of it we drank. Neither remembers. All I can say is that Master George – and there’s no other way I can call him from now on – is a bloody genius! Despite a massive hangover and absolute lack of preparation, he managed to UBERLOQUITATE the entire board meeting into extending our contract for two (count’em – t-w-o) more years! I mean I was sitting there with my head feeling like a cracked egg shell, while Master George managed to pull a presentation full of “gestalt,” “zeitgeist,” “sine qua non,” “parallax,” and at least a dozen words all of which had at least one vowel with an umlaut. I love that guy! Etymology: uberloquitor (n.), uberloquacious (adj.), uberloquitate (v.) —– UBER- (fr. Germ.): over, beyond. Dicktionary: /DIK shun air ee/ Arry Gant is such a dicktionary. He likes to use fancy words to obscure the true meaning of what he is really saying, while making it sound really important. Everything he says is technically true; it just comes off sounding a lot better than what really happened. For example, he told us yesterday that he went to an evening philosophy lecture on campus last Thursday, probably because he thought it would impress this really cute girl who hangs out with us a lot. I was getting tired of his B.S., so I called his bluff in front of her and asked him to tell us some things about it. He responded, “Well, it was so esoteric and arcane as to be virtually impenetrable. I only wish it had could have been less rarefied and more prosaic.” The girl, whose intelligence he had vastly underestimated, responded, “So what you’re saying is that the lecture was meant mainly for people who already have knowledge of the study of philosophy, and so you didn’t understand anything the speakers were saying because you probably haven’t taken any classes in it. You wish it had been way more simplified so you could have actually understood some of it. Is that right?” All he could say in response was, “Uhhhh…yeah, that’s basically it,” before slinking away, claiming that he had to “go do something very urgent and important.” Etymology: dick + dictionary Created by: karenanne.
