Hey Grandma! YOUR MUSIC IS WAY TOO LOUD!

VERBOTICISMS: (Invented words created by the Verbotomy Writers)

Audiochaff: /AW-DEE-OH-chaff/ In the hallway outside the library, Babs was listening to her personal audio device. Judging by the AUDIOCHAFF which slopped over, the sound levels inside her earbuds must have been deafening. The AUDIOCHAFF bore no resemblance to music, and even at a distance was more akin to the background radiation from outer space often heard on poorly tuned shortwave radios. Etymology: AUDIO+CHAFF=AUDIOCHAFF…..AUDIO: of or relating to acoustic, mechanical, or electrical frequencies corresponding to normally audible sound waves; of, relating to, or utilizing recorded sound…..CHAFF: something comparatively worthless; Middle English chaf, from Old English ceaf; akin to Old High German cheva husk. Cutting and concise….good word, S.O.

Lackquaint: /lak waint/ After 20 years out of school, Dick decided to lackquaint himself with the people in his senior year. What on earth made him think that two decades would erase their memories of him? He had been Treasurer of the Chess Club, Ping-pong champion semi-finalist,Audio-Visual Co-ordinator, President of the Star Trek Fan Club, Secretary of the Slide-Rule Club and First-Aider Team Member. He had honors in Math, Science, Physics and Algebra, but had flunked Social Dance, Poetry Writing and Personal Hygiene & Development Class. Dick had not been popular at school, surprising considering his many achievements, and had no dates. He had had a crush on a cute redhead called Ruth, who was of course, a cheerleader, star of the school’s musical production of “Bye, Bye, Birdie”, drum majorette and President of the Future Stewardesses Club. If she knew Dick was alive or remotely interested, she never let on. She had later married the school football team’s quarterback,Ned and lived the suburban dream. When the 20 year reunion day arrived, Dick was excited to meet all his old “friends” from high school and lackquaint himself again with them all, including Ruth. Arriving at the school’s gaily decorated gymnasium, he was astounded to see that many had aged, the years had added pounds on everyone and bald or greying heads on paunchy men prevailed. One of these men was Ned and Dick was disturbed to learn that Ruth had left Ned after two years and three kids to run off and be a showgirl in Las Vegas. Yes, that reunion for Dick had been a Ruth-less one! Etymology: lack (the state of needing something that is absent or unavailable;be without) & acquaint (cause to come to know personally;make familiar)& acquaintance (personal knowledge or information about someone or something; a person with whom you are acquainted;a relationship less intimate than friendship)

Great mini-saga, babe!

Goneraquest: /gahn-AIR-uh-kwest/ Dorian began his GONERAQUEST one gray evening when he got spammed by Classmates.com…first he had to ressurectify their names from the dim recesses of his faulty membanks. Using Anywho and Google, he reanimated the memories of his troubled youth and e-mailed the lot. All the yammering yokels of yesteryear were at the reunion, including his old crush, Peggy- whose orange hair erupted like a lava flow from a long-dormant volcano. Quickly quaffing quantities of questionable punch, a dismayed Dorian deduced that his GONERAQUEST had gone awfully awry. It all came rushing back to him like a hot kiss at the end of a wet fist. He never really liked these people in high school, and the years had not been kind to them as they ripened into paunchy portraits of their former selves. Dorian schlumped home and took a fatal dose of repentathol – never to GONERAQUEST again. Etymology: GONe+ERA+QUEST=GONERAQUEST…..GONE:possessed with a strong attachment or a foolish or unreasoning love or desire-from past participle of go…..ERA:fixed point in time from which a series of years is reckoned; a memorable or important date or event; especially : a period in the history of a person-Late Latin aera, from Latin, counters…..QUEST:an act or instance of seeking; a chivalrous enterprise in medieval romance usually involving an adventurous journey and an alcohol-drenched pseudofestival -Middle English, from Anglo-French queste. Radmomition: Eat! Or you’ll turn into a boneless chicken.

DEFINITION: n., Cautionary advice provided by parents to their children, often makes no logical sense but carries enough emotional weight to affect the child’s behavior.

Eat! Or you'll turn into a boneless chicken.

VERBOTICISMS: (Invented words created by the Verbotomy Writers)

Radmomition: /rad MOM ish in/ Growing up in an Irish household, the 6 siblings were all raised on a solid diet of good old radmomition. This included an assorted mix of superstitions (spilling salt requires you to throw some over your left shoulder), Aesop’s fables(remember that grasshopper and the ant?), lessons from the Bible(Thou shalt not lie about who ate the baking out of the freezer) and old wives’ tales(if you tell a lie, your nose will grow), guaranteed to scare even the toughest know-it-all kid into submission. It was never really understood how putting a hat on the bed or opening an umbrella indoors would bring about bad luck; how stepping on a crack could break your mother’s back or how licking a frosty metal fence would make your tongue stick to it. (Okay, that on was really true, as one brother found out the hard way)! Yet all these tools were used by their mother to great effectiveness. People marvelled at how well-behaved 6 kids could be out in public. But one look from their Mom’s omnipresent eye could nail them to a couch for hours on end, quietly, without a hint of physical persuasion. Santa’s elves were watching you just before Christmas time (I mean really, weren’t they too busy making toys?); God would be mad to learn you did not put your coins on the offering plate in Church (like does he count it all?)If there was no known adage to affect a situation, she simply would make one up. It was not until they were into their teens that they discovered the Ice Cream Man going around the neighbourhood played his twinkly songs when he still had goodies left to sell. They had always been told that the music was a sign he was sold out. The irony was that all these siblings went through higher education, got responsible jobs and used exactly the same radmomition tactics on their own children and grandchildren…May you be half an hour in Heaven before the Devil knows you’re dead! Etymology: Radical (a person who has out there ideas or opinions;used of opinions and actions far beyond the norm) & Admonition (cautionary advice about something imminent;counsel in terms of someone’s behavior;warn strongly; put on guard) & Mom (female parent)& Superstition (an irrational belief arising from ignorance or fear;folklore;omens of good and bad luck)

Mythconduct: /-mith-kon-dukt-/ Donna stared wistfully at her friends splashing in the pool, and glanced up at the clock again รขโ‚ฌโ€ it’d been only 53 minutes since she’d eaten that banana รขโ‚ฌโ€ seven more minutes before she could go back in the pool. Her mother had warned her many times that going into the water less than an hour after eating would inevitably cause cramps, which were somehow always fatal. ‘Would she die from drowning or from the cramps themselves?’ she wondered. What if she just dangled her legs in the water? No, it was just too risky. She couldn’t overcome the mythconduct her mother had instilled into her. Six minutes and forty five seconds to go… Etymology: Myth – any invented story, idea, or concept (from Greek, mythos “speech, story”) + Conduct – personal behavior; way of acting (from Latin, conductus “to lead or bring together”) Created by: Tigger.
