Paranerdia

metrohumanx

Created by: metrohumanx

Pronunciation: para-NER-dee-uh

Sentence: When Chip sat down at his 286 Laptop, the first thing he checked was his e-mail. Verbotomy came next, then a brief look at Myspace to see which spammer had a crush on him. After a quick look at the bleakness of Facebook and a quick foray into E-Bay for a fruitless search for trinkets, he inevitably succumbed to PARANERDIA and Googled all the usernames he ever used...just to be sure his aliases weren't taken over by foreign terrorists. Chip was extremely dismayed when he discovered that "Metrodad" still existed on a crappy "free" dating site called AmericanSingles which he foolishly posted ten years ago, in a late night rush of drunken optimism. Now there was a permablob about him in the etherial cyberuniverse of the WorldWideWaste which no power on earth could remove, and constantly nurtured his latent PARANERDIA now rising within his breast like the feeble winter sun he had come to loathe.

Etymology: PARAnoia+NERD+paranoIA=PARANERDIA......PARANOIA:a psychosis characterized by systematized delusions of persecution or grandeur usually without hallucinations, excessive or irrational suspiciousness and distrustfulness of others, including websites; New Latin, from Greek, madness, from paranous demented, from para- + nous mind........NERD: an unstylish, unattractive, or socially inept person ; especially : one slavishly devoted to intellectual or academic pursuits;perhaps from nerd, a creature in the children's book If I Ran the Zoo (1950) by Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel).

COMMENTS:

metrohumanx "The 10,000 Fingers of Doctor T" was Dr Seuss's ONLY movie...A cult classic starring Hans Conried, and pretty bizarre at that. - metrohumanx, 2008-11-14: 02:34:00

I think a paranerdia is twice as bad as a single one! - Nosila, 2008-11-14: 23:55:00

Narcissearchism

Created by: Nosila

Pronunciation: nar sis surch izm

Sentence: He suffered from Narcissearchism. It was a serious New Age affliction, something unique to the Computer Age. He spent hours on the computer googling himself and checking what was being said about him. Some might say he was looking for himself, in an electronic way. His father before him, whom he was named for, had done the same, but without the automation. He looked up his name in every telephone book in every city. His son was following in his footsteps and spent hours in his quest. Perhaps if his name was not John Smith, it wouldn't have taken so long. He was becoming a real Yahoo...

Etymology: Narcissism (an exceptional interest in and admiration for yourself, named for Narcissis-In Greek mythology, Narcissus, Narkissos or The Self-Admirer (Greek: Νάρκισσος) was a hero of the territory of Thespiae in Boeotia who was renowned for his beauty.) & Search (Look for information on a "search engine" on the Internet; to hunt, explore, seek something.)
